BSG 4.11: "Sometimes a Great Notion"
Jan. 17th, 2009 02:12 pmSo. That felt...like overly dramatic filler, really. I can't say as I liked it too well. I kept waiting for some important discovery or for them to set off to find another planet. (Actually, I sort of figured there might be something like the Temple of Jupiter pointing the way to some other place they could go, but apparently not.) Dee shooting herself came out of nowhere. I guess it was meant to carry on from her complete froked-out-ness on the planet, but damn. She was so happy! And she and Gaeta had just had a Moment that culminated in a cool shot of both of them in the mirror! (I've shipped Dee/Gaeta for a long time now, and I'm not about to stop.) Something tells me she won't stay dead for long, though.
The whole Adama/Tigh suicide scene was also confuzzling. I guess they wanted to show people crushed by the dissolution of the dream of Earth without knowing how to do it subtly? Er. Yeah, that scene didn't do much for me.
I did enjoy Roslin going a bit crazy and yet holding on to her little flower. Aww. (The scene where she picked it up reminded me of Wall-E, with the tiny plant on begarbaged Earth.)
Kara's two bodies are also interesting! I wonder, if she is a Cylon, would she have been able to reincarnate once she died on Earth? I was thinking they'd destroyed the Resurrection ships by then, but maybe my timeline's off. I guess she wouldn't have come back on one of those anyway, because then she would've known. Maybe there's one built by the thirteenth tribe hanging out around Earth somewhere that also surpresses memory? Or something?
...I still think she's a goddess of some kind. That's my theory, I'm stickin' to it. Although the thought of Ellen as Cylon number five kind of turns my stomach. Seriously? Her? I'm also not totally sure it's not Tigh just seeing things, because as I recall he's done that before, yes? So I'm holding out hope it's still someone more interesting. (Also, my pet theory that it's Zarek still holds.)
Maybe EVERYONE'S a Cylon!
Further thoughts:
- The shaky cam is back. Boooooo. I hate the shaky cam.
- I'm curious what Leoben knows that he isn't telling, because it has to be something.
- Burning a book on a spaceship seems somehow unwise, dear.
- The silhoutte shots of Kara building a pyre for her old body and burning it were awesome, but perhaps she should've saved the body for study? They could've found out what she was, perhaps? I guess she didn't want to let anyone know she was a potential Cylon, but still. Science!
- Lee's hair could use some taming, and possibly a cut.
- I don't quite know what to make of the "thirteenth tribe was all Cylon" revelation yet. I'm sure they'll do something with it soon.

Date: 2009-01-18 05:09 am (UTC)Yeahbut...I dunno. Felt like, "Oh, we need to kill someone. Who've we got left that we can get rid of?" Bah.
I think she's pretty dead. But who am I to speculate? These guys are tricksy. *g*
I'm starting to think everyone's going to come back at some point, because everyone's really a Cylon. :D
I actually liked that scene, but I wouldn't have liked it as much if Tigh hadn't refused the drink Adama offered. That to me shows real character development. Not that Tigh will never drink again--he's an alcoholic, it ain't that easy--but still. I thought it was kind of powerful, and that part was pretty subtle, because it wasn't dwelt on at all.
Ah, I didn't even notice that bit. Um, good for Tigh? I was mostly annoyed at the overacting contest going on between Olmos and Hogan. (Olmos was definitely winning.)
I don't think she's a Cylon, but I'm curious as to what the hell she IS.
She HAS to be a goddess. Surely.
That's what I thought at first, but according to TPTB, Ellen's the fifth. Apparently they decided that between seasons 3 and 4.
Aw, man. That's why I try to avoid reading anything extra-curricular that TPTB have to say about the show. Then I can still hope it's all a dream.
sdwolfpup has the same theory here. I really like it.
I could live with it. I really seem to have lost any knack for speculation about this show over hte long hiatus; I think grad school's fried my brain.
Leoben always knows something that he isn't telling. This time it looks like he was wrong about a lot of things and it's freaking him out (and I think the way it was done was great because it shows that the humans aren't the only ones having meltdowns over everything).
He heh. Poor Leoben.
But I think you're right, he knows a lot more stuff. Screw the Caprica prequel; the new series should be Leoben Explains it All.
Hee. Can he have a pet alligator and have his buddy Kara come visiting through the window?

I do admit it was a little overdone, but I liked the character development.

Gee, I always thought she was, already. Or maybe that's just me crushing on a character yet AGAIN.
He heh. Poor Leoben.
I love Leoben. And not because it's CKR. I mean, I don't love the dad in Falling Angels, or anything (although I do love the movie).*g*

Yes. There should also be Fraggles. (http://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/news/photoquality/Fraggles.jpg)

Date: 2009-01-19 01:35 am (UTC)Heh. She's really not a favorite of mine, but surely at this point she must turn out to have some kind of superpower.
