Bones watchers! Answer me this important question: last night's episode. Should I watch it and mock heavily, or will it just fill me with rage? Inquiring minds want to know!
It sounds like it's worse than most fanfic I've read.
Oh, and the end is good, because it starts to resolve a long-standing plot arc unrelated to B/B shenanigans.
I hear rumors of a brain tumor for Booth? Hearing that made me laugh and laugh. And then roll my eyes really hard. (And...did Angela and Hodgins get back together? I've heard reactions that made it sound like they were, but no details.)
Yeah, I dunno if I'll manage to actually watch this episode. Maybe if I can find some kind of alcohol substitute...
It sounds like it's worse than most fanfic I've read.
Oh, BURN! Nah, once you get past the main premise of "Uh, Brennan suddenly wants to spawn wtf??" the writing's not too bad. Better comedy than we've had in a while. And they nearly came up with a rationalization for it: Brennan's idea of emotionally "safe," commitment-free intimacy is... artificial insemination to acquire desirable genes. Of course it is. So... yeah. Alt!universe crackfic.
And then, yes, brain tumors. But! They explain the hockey hallucination, and the ship ghost! (And the appearance of Stewie, and that appearance alone was almost enough to keep me from watching the ep. But it was done... about as well as a hallucinated cartoon character can be done. Think Farscape.)
And yeah, Angela and Hodgins got back together... sorta? Vaguely? They're definitely headed in that direction, anyway, and soon. They were all, "Oh, the ephemerality of this life we lead! We could be snatched away at any moment by a brain tumor! Let us frolic!" Which... I'm kinda thinking B&B will be headed down that path next week. My eyes, too, were a-roll.
Yeah, I dunno if I'll manage to actually watch this episode.
Think low expectations. Then lower them some more. Then you'll have fun!
Maybe if I can find some kind of alcohol substitute...
A solid caffeine- or sugar-high would help, I believe...
Of course, there is actually some good fanfic out there.
And they nearly came up with a rationalization for it: Brennan's idea of emotionally "safe," commitment-free intimacy is... artificial insemination to acquire desirable genes. Of course it is.
Well, yes, but...all of a sudden? Without reference to, I dunno, maybe her brother's stepkids or Baby Andy from back in S3? Feh. It reeks of the plot device it is.
And then, yes, brain tumors. But! They explain the hockey hallucination, and the ship ghost!
...The ship ghost which Brennan saw later in the episode?
I've heard that the Stewie appearance was basically the best part of the episode. Which shocked me.
Angela and Hodgins got back together... sorta? Vaguely? They're definitely headed in that direction, anyway, and soon.
Yay! (I mean, I still kind of hate Angela. But I thought they were so cute.)
They were all, "Oh, the ephemerality of this life we lead! We could be snatched away at any moment by a brain tumor! Let us frolic!"
Ooooof course. How many miles away could anyone see that coming?
A solid caffeine- or sugar-high would help, I believe...
Those just tend to make me easily-distracted, and then it takes hours to get through an episode.
Of course, there is actually some good fanfic out there.
There is! It's just that it accounts for about 1% of fanfic... (btw, your recent excellent one reminded me that I should go watch B5, and I'm having much better luck with the end of S1 than the beginning...)
Without reference to, I dunno, maybe her brother's stepkids or Baby Andy from back in S3?
They tossed in some references to Parker and Baby Andy (phalanges!), but... yeah. Out of the blue.
It reeks of the plot device it is.
There is a stench, yes. This could've been planned better.
...The ship ghost which Brennan saw later in the episode?
Folie a deux? (Or... bad continuity?)
I've heard that the Stewie appearance was basically the best part of the episode.
It was... not the worst? The best may have been the rest of the team going D: D: D: at Brennan's sudden babylust.
(I mean, I still kind of hate Angela. But I thought they were so cute.)
Yes! A big \o/ for Hodgins, at least .
How many miles away could anyone see that coming?
I believe that was visible from space.
Those just tend to make me easily-distracted, and then it takes hours to get through an episode.

True, true.
(btw, your recent excellent one reminded me that I should go watch B5, and I'm having much better luck with the end of S1 than the beginning...)
Aw, thank you! And yay B5! If you're liking the end of S1, you will totally love S2-4. It starts ramping up like crazy in S2.
They tossed in some references to Parker and Baby Andy (phalanges!), but... yeah. Out of the blue.
Nice.
There is a stench, yes. This could've been planned better.
Although I'm pretty sure "plan" isn't in the PTB's vocabulary on this show.
Folie a deux? (Or... bad continuity?)
They need to beg for more change outside the studio in order to hire a script supervisor.
It was... not the worst? The best may have been the rest of the team going D: D: D: at Brennan's sudden babylust.
Haha. It might be worth it for that.
Yes! A big \o/ for Hodgins, at least .
Yay Hodgins! The one character on that show I still like! (Well, there's Cam, I guess.)
Try ODing on ritalin? (It's like vitamins!)
Hmmm. Perhaps I should wait until the next time I get sick, which tends to produce a sort of drunken effect in me. Then I might be able to get through it...
If you're liking the end of S1, you will totally love S2-4. It starts ramping up like crazy in S2.
I'm starting to see what you're talking about with the crazy Tolkien references, too. In that two-parter, I was all, "Bilbooooo! Go into the West, Bilbo!!! The elves aliens are waiting!!"
Although I'm pretty sure "plan" isn't in the PTB's vocabulary on this show.
Absent like "dignity"...
They need to beg for more change outside the studio in order to hire a script supervisor.
Seriously, would it kill them to throw together a show bible? Or even a collection of post-its saying, "THIS IS STUFF BRENNAN SHOULD NEVER EVER DO BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF CHARACTER"?
Haha. It might be worth it for that.
One of the main reasons I could stand her sudden need to spawn was the fact that every other character in the show agreed with me that it was a bizarre and unreasonable development.
The one character on that show I still like!
Uhhhhh did you see, a few episodes ago, when Hodgins took a page out of Un!Brennan's book and attacked Middle Eastern Intern Dude in a racist fashion? It was ugly and Not Canon.
I'm starting to see what you're talking about with the crazy Tolkien references, too. In that two-parter, I was all, "Bilbooooo! Go into the West, Bilbo!!! The elves aliens are waiting!!"
Hee, YES. The Minbari are totally elves in this universe, in more ways than one. It is fabulous. (Although that's not the most blatant reference. Two words: Marcus Cole. You'll find out what I mean in S3.)
Absent like "dignity"...
Siiiiiigh.

Really? Damn. That's no good. I stopped watching regularly when Perotta left (I think), and then I (stupidly) came back and watched the episode where Sweets showed his entirely-too-literal scars. Haven't seen any others. Apparently this was a good plan.

YES! Zack has angst on his mind!
