Last night's Castle

icepixieIt was a cute episode, especially the ending, with Beckett asking Castle to come along to the comfort food truck and then whipping out the magician's flowers. But...okay, I was never thrilled with Gina's reappearance, but I thought she had the potential to shed light on Castle's character and perhaps help him grow up a bit, and I am unthrilled that they wrote her off without using the relationship to give us more than a modicum of insight into his character. The episode last fall where we got the picture of him always wanting to be the hero--that was good. Him dumping her because the magic was gone rather than from actual incompatibility...less good. What does he think is going to happen with Beckett some years down the line? Yeah, I ship it, but seriously, it's not going to be magical forever; at some point, the ordinary will intrude. C&B do seem to have more to build on than he did with Gina, but I would've appreciated some elucidation of the difference.
I don't quite understand where Laine/Esposito came from, but they're kind of adorable, so I'm okay with it. :D
In other news, over the past twenty-four hours, I seem to have accumulated more than three-quarters of a due South vid. Huh. That's rather nifty.* Though I'm starting to rethink a good chunk of the middle, which will be less nifty when I have to redo half of it. *sigh* Er, I may be sending some of you desperate e-mails begging for a beta at some point in the next few weeks. Heads up.
ETA: *cough* Or, uh, possibly the vid is done by now. Despite how weird it is to feel like I'm being possessed by a vidding demon, especially when I heard first the song four days ago, I have to admit it's rather nice. ;)
* Like the other vid I finished in record time, this is a bit of an angst-fest. I wonder if that should worry me.
