It was a cute episode, especially the ending, with Beckett asking Castle to come along to the comfort food truck and then whipping out the magician's flowers. But...okay, I was never thrilled with Gina's reappearance, but I thought she had the potential to shed light on Castle's character and perhaps help him grow up a bit, and I am unthrilled that they wrote her off without using the relationship to give us more than a modicum of insight into his character. The episode last fall where we got the picture of him always wanting to be the hero--that was good. Him dumping her because the magic was gone rather than from actual incompatibility...less good. What does he think is going to happen with Beckett some years down the line? Yeah, I ship it, but seriously, it's not going to be magical forever; at some point, the ordinary will intrude. C&B do seem to have more to build on than he did with Gina, but I would've appreciated some elucidation of the difference.

I don't quite understand where Laine/Esposito came from, but they're kind of adorable, so I'm okay with it. :D

In other news, over the past twenty-four hours, I seem to have accumulated more than three-quarters of a due South vid. Huh. That's rather nifty.* Though I'm starting to rethink a good chunk of the middle, which will be less nifty when I have to redo half of it. *sigh* Er, I may be sending some of you desperate e-mails begging for a beta at some point in the next few weeks. Heads up.

ETA: *cough* Or, uh, possibly the vid is done by now. Despite how weird it is to feel like I'm being possessed by a vidding demon, especially when I heard first the song four days ago, I have to admit it's rather nice. ;)

* Like the other vid I finished in record time, this is a bit of an angst-fest. I wonder if that should worry me.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but I generally feel that C/B is more hype than real. Yes, they're friends. Yes, they're close. Would they work out long-term? I seriously doubt it.

And Lanie/Esposito sounds cute. Now I'll have to watch!

I've just finished watching Castle (caught up by watching 3 episodes in 2 nights!) Yes, Laine/Esposito has come out of nowhere but it is fun and cute. Gina? Meh...I was never a fan of Gina but I agree that Castle's dumping her is rather questionable. Mind you, after the lovely shippy moments of the last two episodes I have a feeling the writers are tightening up the Beckett/Castle relationship *a lot*. I don't think Dr Biker is going to be around long.

One of the major pluses of this show is the way the two main characters dance around each other. I really hope that magic isn't lost when (and I'm sure it's a 'when') they're brought together. I keep telling myself that for every Moonlighting there's a Northern Exposure where the two main characters sleep together and it doesn't change their relationship in the slightest...

Esposito's on the rebound after Ryan left him for Jenny. *cough*

Yeah, that's a good point. I kind of took it incredibly literally - meaning, not only are they a magical crime-fighting, mind-reading team of Awesome, but Beckett also Knows Magic! - which is something he never had and never could have had with Gina. Because the notion of magic (in the sense of the spark/chemistry/whatever of a new love) being there forever, uhh, doesn't make sense.

I'm also a bit disappointed that the writers did indeed end up the alternative love interests (i.e. Gina and Dr Biker Boy, whom we never even met) as stalling tactics rather than ways of exploring the main characters and their relationship further. I know that this is what you predicted (and what I should have expected), but I was hoping for something more. I do think, though, that there are gonna be some drastic changes in the Castle / Beckett ship soon...

Did you see last week's ep, with the meta-shipping? Good times! Unless you're Esposito...

Because I am bored at work and still in my "Trashy Murder Mystery!" zone, I started reading the new Castle book online. *If* we were to assume the characters from the book and from the series are exactly the same - excluding the names, of course - than the Lanie/Esposito most likely is a result of (or a result from?) the hints of Lauren/Ochoa in the book, which has (spoilers I attempted to white-out). Vwala, instant attraction. Or something.

Perhaps because of your "WTH?" with the on screen romance, I was taken by surprise when it happened in the book, especially since it didn't take very long. Second chapter he's checking her out at a murder scene; by the third they're flirting over the top of a dead body in the ME van.

As for the "life imitating art" thing, that would be awesome. And hilarious. And I totally wouldn't put it past him.
