bessemerprocess, a meme:
Name me a character [ed. or multiple characters if you like] and I will tell you:
- How I FEEEEEL about this character.
- All the people I ship romantically with this character.
- My favorite gen relationship with this character.
- My unpopular opinion about this character.
- One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon.
Canons: Babylon 5, Body of Proof, BSG, Caroline in the City, Castle, Corner Gas, Crusade, Cupid, certain eras of Doctor Who, due South, Earth 2, Farscape, Firefly, Forever Knight, Fringe, Futurama, The Middleman, Moonlighting, Northern Exposure, Pushing Daisies, The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, SG-1, SGA, Slings & Arrows, Spaced, DS9, Voyager, The Invisible Man, Warehouse 13, Wonderfalls, and The X-Files. You can also try Tolkien and Bujold, but I don't promise to remember every character from them.
And now, back to this fic I'm writing, where Megan is currently terrorizing (more) hospital staff. Sam and Bud are trying to make her move on to the next scene, but she's not having it.

Date: 2011-04-23 05:13 am (UTC)I am crazily, scarily attached to Megan. Intellectually, I know she's kind of annoying, and the show is poorly-written, but dammit, I LOVE HER. I rewatched the pilot the other day (because it's...on Netflix?), and I was very pissed off at Todd for making her cry. DON'T MAKE MEGAN CRY, YOU BASTARD.
Um. I think I like her for the narcissistic reason that I totally identify with her. Like, every episode, she does something new that's totally something I do too. Not knowing a co-worker was even married, totally over-preparing/control-freaking for Lacey's day at work, getting so invested in a plan of action that she tells her bosses what to do...yeah. Anyway, I think she's pretty amazing. I was impressed by her revelation in the most recent episode about settling out of court and then closing up her practice immediately after she killed her patient.
Ships: Hahahahaha, yeah. I ship her Megan/Peter more with every episode. It was like they MADE A CHECKLIST of things I like in a ship and put them all together: banter, snarky insults, one character who's way more in tune with emotions than the other, him teaching her social skills, neither of them taking any crap from each other... Okay, Peter's still sort of a cipher at the moment, I have faith they'll do an episode on him soon.
I can also see her with Kate. Not nearly as much as with Peter, but I'm not going to turn down well-written Megan/Kate fic or awesome subtext in the canon.
Gen: Well, of course she and Peter are BFFs, and her and Kate definitely could be friends at some point. I also think Ethan's attachment to/terror of her is cute. And she and Sam seem to work well together, plus there's something interesting going on with Bud. The only person I don't like her with is Curtis, which...well, you know my issues there.
Unpopular opinion: I think maybe liking her at all might be unpopular in certain circles, but here's another: Dear god, I wish the show would let her and Kate give the spiky heels a rest. That can't be comfortable for the actresses, and it's totally unbelievable for a character who spends all day on her feet. (I guess she's in clogs for the actual autopsies, but still.) And she always looks like she's about to fall over when she's on anything resembling unstable ground. Watching her teeter toward the dumpster in "Talking Heads" was just painful.
Canon that needs to happen: In my headcanon, Megan's grandfather taught her how to recognize all the native flora and fauna when she was a kid, thus kickstarting her interest in science. At some point, she and Peter should wind up at a park, maybe on a date she doesn't realize is a date (and he's content to let her think that for a while), and she can spend the whole time pointing out trees and bugs and whatnot, much to his astonishment, because he'd sort of figured from her always-perfect wardrobe that she never went outside at all. I also want to see her get really competitive at something silly, like an ME vs. police softball game or tossing rings on milk bottles at the state fair. (Um. Not sure why she'd be at the state fair. Maybe she lost a bet.)

Date: 2011-04-24 08:57 pm (UTC)I love the spiky heels, LOL. I laugh so hard whenever Megan inches her way across uneven ground because it seems like such a good reflection of her character - she's kind of clueless about her surroundings. She's doing things HER perfectionist way and she's not about to let reality crimp her style.
I like the idea of her getting competitive at something silly, because she would totally NOT GET why they have to do this in the first place and be totally against it but get insanely competitive in spite of herself.

Date: 2011-04-24 11:18 pm (UTC)I haven't quite gotten on board with Megan/Peter because Peter is still pretty undefined, you know? I'm waiting for him to get a real personality of his own aside from being Megan's social crutch before I can decide if this relationship would be mutually beneficial or not. :)
Heh. He is a little undefined at the moment. (Although everyone but Megan is, really.) I guess I'm okay with that for now because we do at least get a very clear portrait of how he interacts with Megan, to the point where writing dialogue for them in the fic I just finished was basically like taking dictation, and that particular style of interaction is basically LIKE CRACK to me. Plus he has a habit of kind of gazing at her adoringly when she's being brilliant, though it may just be that he thinks she's smart, IDK. I can fanwank motivation and background if the basic materials are there, I guess is what I'm saying, so that's why I've latched on to them like a very latchy thing. ;) Although knowing whether the relationship would be beneficial to him as well would be an excellent thing.

HA! Okay, I can see that. on the other hand, she's a scientist--surely by now she's realized that the evidence of difficulty walking and painful feet
and getting laughed at behind her back by everyone, I mean COME ONall point to more sensible footwear?no subject
Date: 2011-04-24 11:23 pm (UTC)I think one day Bud will snark to Sam one too many times about Megan's shoes, and Sam will mention this to Megan (who stares at her like Sam's talking about the weather on the moon or something), so Sam says to Kate "Maybe you should suggest Megan go shoe shopping or something?" and Peter is like "THE BLIND LEADING THE BLIND" but says nothing because this will be toooooo freaking funny for him to watch.
For what it's worth, if you wear crazy ridiculous heels all the time, you get used to them and it's actually painful NOT to wear them because your tendons shorten or whatever. I had a coworker who was really tiny and wears high heels literally from the moment she gets out of bed in the morning, and she can't even walk barefoot anymore!

I think your scenario about Kate taking Megan shoe shopping and Peter despairing of it all needs to happen on the show. For real. Peter, Sam, and Bud can just kind of sit back and laugh a lot.

I have heard that, and it's just so disturbing that they very idea leaves me going D: D: D: OMG.
