bessemerprocess, a meme:
Name me a character [ed. or multiple characters if you like] and I will tell you:
- How I FEEEEEL about this character.
- All the people I ship romantically with this character.
- My favorite gen relationship with this character.
- My unpopular opinion about this character.
- One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon.
Canons: Babylon 5, Body of Proof, BSG, Caroline in the City, Castle, Corner Gas, Crusade, Cupid, certain eras of Doctor Who, due South, Earth 2, Farscape, Firefly, Forever Knight, Fringe, Futurama, The Middleman, Moonlighting, Northern Exposure, Pushing Daisies, The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne, SG-1, SGA, Slings & Arrows, Spaced, DS9, Voyager, The Invisible Man, Warehouse 13, Wonderfalls, and The X-Files. You can also try Tolkien and Bujold, but I don't promise to remember every character from them.
And now, back to this fic I'm writing, where Megan is currently terrorizing (more) hospital staff. Sam and Bud are trying to make her move on to the next scene, but she's not having it.

Date: 2011-04-22 05:50 pm (UTC)I don't really ship her with anyone, although I could probably be persuaded to read fic pairing her with Peter (although maybe not, because I OTP him pretty hard with Megan). Actually, what I really think/hope is that she has this great, angst-free personal life with maybe a long-term live-in boyfriend or fiance or something.
Gen dynamics...I like her with everyone so far. I guess there's probably the most potential with Bud, though.
I'd like to know, well, anything more about her, but I'm particularly curious about that "Because you're prejudiced" line the cheesesteak place worker said to her this week. I get the impression, both from that and the way she was kind of derisive about having never been to Manitoc Avenue (or wherever it was that the two victims in "Letting Go" had been to get their green water ices), that she comes from an upper middle class background, but there could be other explanations.
Considering I haven't seen her mentioned in fandom at all, I'm not sure it's possible to have an unpopular opinion on her yet. Dear show: need moar on Sam! I hear one of the upcoming episodes features a victim who was connected to her in some way. I want to say they were in the same sorority, but I can't remember if that's the connection or if it was just that they went to the same school or something.

Date: 2011-04-22 07:51 pm (UTC)I OTP her with Aral, although I suppose if someone were to write post-Cryoburn Cordelia/Alys I'd probably read it. Gen-wise, I'm most interested in her relationship with Miles.
I'm not really in the fandom, so I don't know what's popular and what's not about her. Um. She's awesome. What else is there to say, really?
I want more canon from Miles's childhood that uses her as the POV character, dammit.

Date: 2011-04-22 07:57 pm (UTC)I guess if I ship her with anyone, it would be Odo, although I wasn't into it as a teenager watching the show. For non-shippy purposes, I liked seeing her and Sisko do commanderly stuff together, and I remember wanting to see more of her and Jadzia being buddies.
I am truly awful at the unpopular opinion thing, but, uh...I never really liked mirror universe episodes, so I guess mine would be that I didn't like mirror!Kira.
I still haven't seen all the real canon for her (I lost track of things during S5), so, uh...I'll go with Kira in another crazy holosuite scenario!
You can give me more characters if you want. :D

Date: 2011-04-23 04:15 am (UTC)I ship him with Delenn, of course. I think they would've been more interesting than Delenn/Sheridan, although of all possible Delenn ships, Delenn/Ivanova is my favorite. I could also easily slash him with Vir. (Actually, I want a Vir/Lennier/Na'toth threesome kind of a lot.) For genships, I go for the same pairings.
Unpopular opinion: is it unpopular to dislike Lennier as a Ranger? 'Cause I really didn't enjoy that at all.
Canon that needed to happen: Aside from Delenn and Lennier getting together, how about Delenn, Lennier, and Neroon getting a longer arc together where they put Minbar back together post-Civil War?

Date: 2011-04-23 04:26 am (UTC)Bender is the best part of Futurama, bar none. Well, Leela's pretty awesome too, but c'mon. BENDER. Who doesn't love a moody, greedy, lazy, immoral robot? I like that he's not completely unfeeling, too, as on occasion when he actually seems to care for Fry, or when he feels sorry for what he did to the little alien civilization that lived on his stomach while he floated in space.
The idea of shipping Bender with anyone kind of horrifies me, not gonna lie. Didn't he have a robot girlfriend at some point, though?
Bender&Fry forever, though. I like the trio of him, Fry, and Leela too.
Unpopular opinion: God, I suck at this part of the meme. Uh...I don't think I have one. I'm not actually in Futurama fandom; I just watch the show, and not even all that consistently.
What should happen: Has there been an episode where Bender tries to quit drinking cold turkey, maybe to impress a girl or something? 'Cause if there hasn't, there should be. That would be hilarious.

Date: 2011-04-23 04:33 am (UTC)I liked his on-again/off-again thing with Lochley. I thought it was cool that the show acknowledged that they were both incredibly busy with their jobs and often very far away from each other, so they weren't tying strings around each other or trying to make it into a grand romance, but just planned to enjoy being together when they could.
I always wanted to know more about his history with Galen. I also thought he and Max Eilerson had an interesting dynamic.
Not sure if the show lasted long enough/has enough of a fandom to have an unpopular opinion. Wait, was his thing with Lochley unpopular? If so, that's mine.
Canon that should've happened: The rest of the five-year arc! Somewhat more seriously, a plot thread where he was connected to the Apocalypse Box beyond just having won it in a poker game. Maybe it came to him for a reason.

Date: 2011-04-23 05:13 am (UTC)I am crazily, scarily attached to Megan. Intellectually, I know she's kind of annoying, and the show is poorly-written, but dammit, I LOVE HER. I rewatched the pilot the other day (because it's...on Netflix?), and I was very pissed off at Todd for making her cry. DON'T MAKE MEGAN CRY, YOU BASTARD.
Um. I think I like her for the narcissistic reason that I totally identify with her. Like, every episode, she does something new that's totally something I do too. Not knowing a co-worker was even married, totally over-preparing/control-freaking for Lacey's day at work, getting so invested in a plan of action that she tells her bosses what to do...yeah. Anyway, I think she's pretty amazing. I was impressed by her revelation in the most recent episode about settling out of court and then closing up her practice immediately after she killed her patient.
Ships: Hahahahaha, yeah. I ship her Megan/Peter more with every episode. It was like they MADE A CHECKLIST of things I like in a ship and put them all together: banter, snarky insults, one character who's way more in tune with emotions than the other, him teaching her social skills, neither of them taking any crap from each other... Okay, Peter's still sort of a cipher at the moment, I have faith they'll do an episode on him soon.
I can also see her with Kate. Not nearly as much as with Peter, but I'm not going to turn down well-written Megan/Kate fic or awesome subtext in the canon.
Gen: Well, of course she and Peter are BFFs, and her and Kate definitely could be friends at some point. I also think Ethan's attachment to/terror of her is cute. And she and Sam seem to work well together, plus there's something interesting going on with Bud. The only person I don't like her with is Curtis, which...well, you know my issues there.
Unpopular opinion: I think maybe liking her at all might be unpopular in certain circles, but here's another: Dear god, I wish the show would let her and Kate give the spiky heels a rest. That can't be comfortable for the actresses, and it's totally unbelievable for a character who spends all day on her feet. (I guess she's in clogs for the actual autopsies, but still.) And she always looks like she's about to fall over when she's on anything resembling unstable ground. Watching her teeter toward the dumpster in "Talking Heads" was just painful.
Canon that needs to happen: In my headcanon, Megan's grandfather taught her how to recognize all the native flora and fauna when she was a kid, thus kickstarting her interest in science. At some point, she and Peter should wind up at a park, maybe on a date she doesn't realize is a date (and he's content to let her think that for a while), and she can spend the whole time pointing out trees and bugs and whatnot, much to his astonishment, because he'd sort of figured from her always-perfect wardrobe that she never went outside at all. I also want to see her get really competitive at something silly, like an ME vs. police softball game or tossing rings on milk bottles at the state fair. (Um. Not sure why she'd be at the state fair. Maybe she lost a bet.)

In my fic-universe, that is absolutely 100% canonical. They've got many happy years post-SiL.
how about Delenn, Lennier, and Neroon getting a longer arc together where they put Minbar back together post-Civil War?
Oh, that would have been lovely.

Date: 2011-04-24 08:57 pm (UTC)I love the spiky heels, LOL. I laugh so hard whenever Megan inches her way across uneven ground because it seems like such a good reflection of her character - she's kind of clueless about her surroundings. She's doing things HER perfectionist way and she's not about to let reality crimp her style.
I like the idea of her getting competitive at something silly, because she would totally NOT GET why they have to do this in the first place and be totally against it but get insanely competitive in spite of herself.

Date: 2011-04-24 10:17 pm (UTC)Ships: She's so much like a little girl that the entire idea kind of fills me with horror, actually. Meep.
Friendships: I liked her, Kaylee, and Inara together. The scene with her and Kaylee playing jacks is adorable.
Unpopular opinion: I don't OMGLOVE!!!! her like most of fandom appears to. (Appeared to? It's been a while.)
Something that should've happened: Her and Simon should've had more chances to just kick back and chill for a while.

Date: 2011-04-24 10:29 pm (UTC)FEEEEEEEELINGS: OMG, Scully is the very best part of the X-Files. THE VERY BEST. She's so competent and smart and brave and skeptical and strong, and I love how at heart she is just this DEEPLY WEIRD person, too. And she can be so goofy. Aww. I do wish Carter had given her a bit of a rest with all the emotional (and physical) punching bag stuff, though. I mean, god, her dad and her sister die, she gets kidnapped, she gets cancer, evil government men steal her ova, the daughter she didn't know she had dies, Mulder vanishes, she has to give her son up for adoption... Holy cow.
Ships: Mulder. Always and forever. Even if they are scarily co-dependent and probably not actually that good for each other; I don't care, they will always be one of Baby's First OTPs, and have informed my shipping blueprint for the past fifteen years.
Other kinds of ships: Um. I sort of liked the potential she had with Monica? I've tried to put most of S8/9 out of my head, and before that, she really didn't interact with many people beyond Mulder.
Unpopular opinion: While I agree that her S1/S2 suits were eye-searingly awful (there's a maroon one that shows up in my nightmares), having now gone through my own attempts at buying businessy clothes on tiny salaries, I kind of like that they showed her wearing stuff she could've conceivably afforded that probably came straight from K-Mart.
Something that should've happened: The show should've ended after "Je Souhaite." Beyond that, she should've gotten to keep one of her kids. Basically, she should've gotten to be happier.

Date: 2011-04-24 10:46 pm (UTC)Ships: He and Ellen are kind of a package deal for me; I think because so much of Geoffrey's life is bound up with hers, that I can't really think of him without her coming along for the ride. And there's so much history there that it's endlessly fascinating. I kind of like the idea of Anna having had a little crush on him back when he was acting at the festival, though.
Other kinds of ships: I adore his relationship with Anna. They're such good friends and co-conspirators, especially in S3. I really like they way that they each don't necessarily understand what the other does, but they respect it tremendously.
Unpopular opinion: I don't slash him with Darren at all, not even back at university. I can see them having some grudging respect for each other, but I think even if they were both really drunk, there would still be a line.
Something that should've happened: The series is so perfect as it is, I find it difficult to think of something to add. I would like to see a sequel series set at the Theatre Sans Argent in Montreal, though.

Date: 2011-04-24 11:18 pm (UTC)I haven't quite gotten on board with Megan/Peter because Peter is still pretty undefined, you know? I'm waiting for him to get a real personality of his own aside from being Megan's social crutch before I can decide if this relationship would be mutually beneficial or not. :)
Heh. He is a little undefined at the moment. (Although everyone but Megan is, really.) I guess I'm okay with that for now because we do at least get a very clear portrait of how he interacts with Megan, to the point where writing dialogue for them in the fic I just finished was basically like taking dictation, and that particular style of interaction is basically LIKE CRACK to me. Plus he has a habit of kind of gazing at her adoringly when she's being brilliant, though it may just be that he thinks she's smart, IDK. I can fanwank motivation and background if the basic materials are there, I guess is what I'm saying, so that's why I've latched on to them like a very latchy thing. ;) Although knowing whether the relationship would be beneficial to him as well would be an excellent thing.
it seems like such a good reflection of her character - she's kind of clueless about her surroundings. She's doing things HER perfectionist way and she's not about to let reality crimp her style.
HA! Okay, I can see that. on the other hand, she's a scientist--surely by now she's realized that the evidence of difficulty walking and painful feet
and getting laughed at behind her back by everyone, I mean COME ONall point to more sensible footwear?no subject
Date: 2011-04-24 11:23 pm (UTC)I think one day Bud will snark to Sam one too many times about Megan's shoes, and Sam will mention this to Megan (who stares at her like Sam's talking about the weather on the moon or something), so Sam says to Kate "Maybe you should suggest Megan go shoe shopping or something?" and Peter is like "THE BLIND LEADING THE BLIND" but says nothing because this will be toooooo freaking funny for him to watch.
For what it's worth, if you wear crazy ridiculous heels all the time, you get used to them and it's actually painful NOT to wear them because your tendons shorten or whatever. I had a coworker who was really tiny and wears high heels literally from the moment she gets out of bed in the morning, and she can't even walk barefoot anymore!

Date: 2011-04-24 11:43 pm (UTC)Point. ;)
I think your scenario about Kate taking Megan shoe shopping and Peter despairing of it all needs to happen on the show. For real. Peter, Sam, and Bud can just kind of sit back and laugh a lot.
if you wear crazy ridiculous heels all the time, you get used to them and it's actually painful NOT to wear them because your tendons shorten or whatever.
I have heard that, and it's just so disturbing that they very idea leaves me going D: D: D: OMG.
