Warehouse 13: "The New Guy"

Finally got around to watching the premiere of Warehouse 13, and oh, my heart went PITTER-PAT at the end. Myka/H.G. forever! H.G.'s weird destructive moment at the end of last season and her subsequent imprisonment, not to mention the fact that only her consciousness and not her body was there, did nothing to diminish the beautiful frenemyish femslashy vibe between them. LOVE. I so, so hope she comes back for more episodes this season. She and Myka are just wonderful together as the dark and light sides of the same coin (but more complex than that), even if you don't think of it in a femslashy way.
I didn't realize they were going to get a new guy (well, technically; I noticed he was a guest star rather than a regular), but I liked him too! The whole Buddhist thing is cool, as is his refusal to laugh at Pete's jokes. But what I really loved was when Pete said, "Kirk out. Oh, and Spock too," and then the camera panned to show Jinx flashing the Vulcan salute. Yeah, I like him. :D
Pete was less man-childish and more goofball this time (like when he was obviously taunting Myka with malapropisms like "Bird of Avon"), which I approve of. I was seriously questioning his competence last season.
Myka is back, as we all knew she would be. It helped that they had to go to Denver, of course. And needed her expertise on Shakespeare. Awwww.
Apparently there is another arc this season, and Southern Sally is at the heart of it. I feel almost completely neutral about her right now, so I'll reserve judgment on the plot. But dear show: Pleasepleaseplease make it so that H.G. can help defeat this season's big bad and be redeemed! That would be awesome! I've also seen speculation that H.G. turned bad last season as part of a long set-up so that she would be in a position to help defeat this season's big bad, which would be excellent as well. Plus it would was the taste of her ridiculous reasoning for destroying the world out of my mouth.
Claudia was snarky and super-competent and fun, as usual. I always love her, and I especially love that she ragged on Artie's characterization of the Warehouse as "America's Attic," because that's what the Smithsonian Museum of American History calls itself. And she got her big sister back, yay. :) And Artie got his older surrogate daughter back. While also being snarky and bitchy. Hee.
The obligatory car product placement was actually kind of fun, because I could totally see Claudia being interested and knowledgeable about all the features on the Prius.
Spoilers!
Not related to the episode, but I found this:
TV Guide Magazine: The surprisingly quick return of H.G. Wells was one of the stunners in your season premiere. Is she here to stay?
Joanne Kelly: You'll see her throughout Season 3. [Long pause] I don't know if I'm supposed to say that. Oh, well! [Laughs] The relationship with Myka and H.G. will be even more interesting this season....If anything, I think the closest Myka comes to a romance is with H.G. Wells.
*cheers* *dies* *is generally pleased*
I also hear tell that the new guy is canonically gay, which gives me hope that they will at least keep giving H.G. and Myka material that is easily subject to shippy interpretations. Yes?

They don't have any!" I did catch a bit of flirt between Myka and TNG in their first scene together in the bookshop, but maybe I was reading something that wasn't there.
Question: did you find Pete unusually sexist in the way he treated Southern Sally? I know I did, and I was really disappointed, as he's never struck me as misogynistic in any way.

I went into the show back in S1 expecting to ship Pete/Myka, because I eat up canon opposites-attract pairings, especially of partners in dangerous occupations, with a big ol' spoon. I was really surprised, a few episodes in, to find that I was not shipping them at all. That's basically unprecedented for me. I am so, so pleased the PTB have also realized that their chemistry is more siblingish than shippy, though.

Me too! I liked the looks Pete and Myka gave each other at that; kind of like, "He really doesn't know us, does he?" Or perhaps, "He might be able to tell when someone's lying, but he sure can't see the truth here."

I missed that, though maybe because I already knew he was gay. I got the impression that someone had told Jinx about how awesome Myka was, and he was just impressed to be in her presence.

Well, I usually think Pete's being a jerk (though not a sexist one), so that may color my opinion, but...not really? I can see how it would come off as sexist, but I also think he would've treated a male FBI agent (or whatever she actually is) in exactly the same way. He seemed to be mocking her accent more than anything.
