3...2...1...

I was unaware it was possible for HG to get any cooler than she was already, and then she built a Victorian space rocket. Sure, she tried to destroy the world later. VICTORIAN SPACE ROCKET. I love this show!

I really liked the idea of tracing an artifact through 100+ years over three teams of Warehouse agents, and largely the execution did it proud. Of course I loved HG being her kickass self back in 1893, and Ianto being both in awe of and scared of her. (Bwahaha, he learned a particular martial art because he'd seen her use it a lot and was afraid she'd one day use it on him!) Also, "Is there any famous man in London you haven't [had sex with]?" / "Oscar Wilde. Though not for lack of trying." HA. Oh, HG.

I got the impression from her intro episode that she was actually rather close to her brother, and she gave him the ideas to write about because she was too busy inventing and chasing down artifacts to write anything, and didn't really care about the recognition anyway. Apparently he was actually a vapid jerk instead? Eh, whatever. I haven't seen S2 in a year; very possibly I misremember.

The only thing about that time period I didn't care overmuch for was the attempt at Victorian-style re-creation of the modern team's snarky banter. It just sounded too stilted. They are going to have to develop some kind of dialogue style that's both Victorian and recognizably W13-ish for the spin-off, and this was a good attempt, but they're not quite there yet.

The Jack and Rebecca scenes were...kind of blah. I haven't seen their S2 episode since it aired, and I'd forgotten pretty much everything about them, so I couldn't care much for their story. Plus those two actors are legit awful. I felt like I was watching a high school stage play when they were at the barn, and a bad one at that.

And the modern-day scenes were GREAT! Awwww, Claudia likes having HG back. Even Artie seemed kind of regretful when he told her not to get too used to having her there. And of course Myka liked having her back! Well, when she wasn't feeling utterly conflicted about it, anyway. Loved their scenes together. They didn't get a lot of time together, but they managed to convey a lot of regret and latent friendship and/or desire in them. The last one was especially poignant. They do make a great team. Pleeeeeeeeeeease can we get an HG redemption arc, pleeeeeeeeease?

I'm unsure whether Pete's militant dislike of HG really stems from, as Myka suspected, the fact that HG's attempt to destroy the world ran Myka away from the Warehouse for a while, or something else. Hmmm.

Don't Hate the Player

So much better than last week. Is there really any question of whether Jane and Maura are together? I remain befuddled by how this much OBVIOUS SUBTEXT could be unintentional. Janet Tamaro is lying through her teeth with every interview she does, isn't she? I mean, really. Maura cutting off the toes of her surely-expensive shoes to make them fit Jane? WHO EVEN DOES THIS? (I don't even care that the stated reason was so that Jane would look sexy for her date/interrogation with the ball player. Actually, Maura seemed like she was doing it more because she has Fashion Ideals, Goddammit, and no dress of hers was going to be worn without the appropriate footwear. Though for the record, I thought the boots with the dress were kind of cool.)

Also, Maura wearing Jane's clothes and hinting complaining that she got hit on by two women? Like that wasn't intentional. Also, banter. So much snarky, we-are-so-married banter.

Um, yeah, so there was a plot. I called the player Jane "dated" from the moment he handed her his phone number, because this is SO VERY STRAIGHT Rizzoli & Isles and none of their potential boyfriends last past one episode, so of course he had to be the bad guy. The woman playing the wife and half-owner of the team was incredibly familiar, but I can't quite place her and IMDB won't cough up a name for the actress, so I'll just have to wonder.

The Rizzoli family drama was somewhat interesting, but far more interesting was the DOGGEH. That dog is the cutest thing EVER, I swear.

Annnd, I have now watched Rizzoli & Isles and so have a comment about that.

The woman playing the wife and half-owner of the team was incredibly familiar

Elaine Hendrix. I remember her originally from the '98 remake of The Parent Trap, but she's been in a bunch of stuff, including Castle.

Is there really any question of whether Jane and Maura are together? I remain befuddled by how this much OBVIOUS SUBTEXT could be unintentional.

It's very, very obvious. Let's start with Jane and Maura sitting so close on the couch, or Jane smacking Maura's butt as she walks past, or, you know, trading clothes (and the adorably hesitant way Jane says "what...why?" when Maura says "unzip me"). They are so married. Also, I'm not surprised women hit on Maura when she was in Jane's clothes (and Jane' slightly jealous "really?" when Maura mentioned it was v. cute). She looked very, very gay and very, very sexy. Oh, and Jane & Maura coming back to Maura's place so late at night that Angela was in bed? Okay, it was done so Jane could be there when they found Maura's stuff was missing, but there's absolutely no reason why Jane should come home with Maura that late, unless they were going to spend the night together (again).

Though for the record, I thought the boots with the dress were kind of cool.

Yeah, I thought so too. Maura could've saved her shoes if she'd just made Jane take those socks off (or at least roll them down so they weren't visible over the top of the boots, because, yeah, that wasn't a good look).

The Rizzoli family drama was somewhat interesting, but far more interesting was the DOGGEH. That dog is the cutest thing EVER, I swear.

Jo Friday is adorable, isn't she? And that poultry thing is true - although Buster's a big dog, he's allergic to chicken (and beef and pork and wheat and pollen and about a million other things) & he always licks his paws obsessively when he's been exposed to an allergen. Also, as if anyone needed more proof that I'm a Crazy Dog Lady, I decided I liked Tommy the instant I saw him with Jo (and even more now his new job is as a dog walker).

I somehow managed to totally miss this!

Oh yeah, that happens just when Jane & Maura are about to leave for the stadium. And Maura looks like she really enjoyed it.

That was SO CUTE! It really seemed like she was thinking, "Are all my dreams about to come true?" there.

Yep, it was adorable. Jane was all "wait, here in your office with the door open? Um, okay!" I also liked that Maura wore Jane's clothes all evening (anybody else's clothes, and you know she would have changed immediately and probably showered), and that Jane immediately started unzipping her dress the second she and Maura got home.

Is there a lesbian wardrobe style? I keep seeing references to Jane's butch clothes or whatever, and...I dunno, to me they just look like professional clothes women wear. I've seen that look out in the wild quite a bit.

On Jane, her clothes look like "professional women who isn't particularly interested in fashion." (with the exception of the Oxford shirt she sometimes wears, which is ridiculously gay). They look especially gay on Maura because they're just big enough on her that it looks like she's wearing men's clothes.

My remaining little dog is allergic to wheat and assorted outdoor things as well, although thankfully not to meat. She's been on an antihistamine (or maybe it's oral cortisone? She's really my mom's dog, and she handles all the vet stuff) forever, but it seems to do very little. She chews on her paws all the time.

Aw. Little dogs are the cutest. I miss when Buster was that small. He's really Steph's dog, but I feel like I have joint custody because he stays with me at least two days a week, and usually more. His allergies are crazy - pretty much the only thing he can eat without problems is hypoallergenic fish & rice kibble (which smells about as gross as it sounds), but he is annoyingly smart and opens cupboards to help himself to food (last week, I went to the grocery store at the end of the road and came back to find he'd opened the cupboard & helped himself to an entire loaf of bread (there was nothing but an empty packet, some crumbs, and a very happy golden retriever), and one time when I was in the shower, he ate an entire stick of butter and half a packet of gravy granules), so I'm very familiar with the paw licking.

Oh, wow, she DOES!

I was amazed at her facial expression. She just looks so surprised and delighted at Jane's actions. It was a blink and you'll miss it moment, but if you didn't blink, it was fabulous. The live feed wasn't working, so I had to wait til morning to download, but I was spoiled on twitter by hordes of fangirls screaming "ASS SLAP OMG *DIES*!!!!11" about 5 minutes in, so I knew to expect it. I'm curious to know if it was scripted, or if it was ad-libbed like the stuffed-bear kiss from episode 3. It seems like something Angie & Sasha would do themselves, since they apparently have a habit of smacking each other and grabbing each other's asses, according to Tamaro.

Is it more the combination of Angie Harmon's looks and demeanor with the shirt than the shirt itself?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Just the act of wearing an Oxford shirt (or plaid or whatever) doesn't make somebody look gay, just like the butch swagger Jane has isn't necessarily gay, nor is the way she sits or carries herself, but all of those things put together add up to gaygaygaygaygay.

Although didn't Jane's shirt have a ruffle or something at the neckline? Maybe it was just unbuttoned and poofed out a bit.

I didn't see a ruffle - on closer inspection, it just seems to be a little oversized and poofed out a bit. I think even for Jane it's a little too big, or more baggy than fitted.
