I was unaware it was possible for HG to get any cooler than she was already, and then she built a Victorian space rocket. Sure, she tried to destroy the world later. VICTORIAN SPACE ROCKET. I love this show!

I really liked the idea of tracing an artifact through 100+ years over three teams of Warehouse agents, and largely the execution did it proud. Of course I loved HG being her kickass self back in 1893, and Ianto being both in awe of and scared of her. (Bwahaha, he learned a particular martial art because he'd seen her use it a lot and was afraid she'd one day use it on him!) Also, "Is there any famous man in London you haven't [had sex with]?" / "Oscar Wilde. Though not for lack of trying." HA. Oh, HG.

I got the impression from her intro episode that she was actually rather close to her brother, and she gave him the ideas to write about because she was too busy inventing and chasing down artifacts to write anything, and didn't really care about the recognition anyway. Apparently he was actually a vapid jerk instead? Eh, whatever. I haven't seen S2 in a year; very possibly I misremember.

The only thing about that time period I didn't care overmuch for was the attempt at Victorian-style re-creation of the modern team's snarky banter. It just sounded too stilted. They are going to have to develop some kind of dialogue style that's both Victorian and recognizably W13-ish for the spin-off, and this was a good attempt, but they're not quite there yet.

The Jack and Rebecca scenes were...kind of blah. I haven't seen their S2 episode since it aired, and I'd forgotten pretty much everything about them, so I couldn't care much for their story. Plus those two actors are legit awful. I felt like I was watching a high school stage play when they were at the barn, and a bad one at that.

And the modern-day scenes were GREAT! Awwww, Claudia likes having HG back. Even Artie seemed kind of regretful when he told her not to get too used to having her there. And of course Myka liked having her back! Well, when she wasn't feeling utterly conflicted about it, anyway. Loved their scenes together. They didn't get a lot of time together, but they managed to convey a lot of regret and latent friendship and/or desire in them. The last one was especially poignant. They do make a great team. Pleeeeeeeeeeease can we get an HG redemption arc, pleeeeeeeeease?

I'm unsure whether Pete's militant dislike of HG really stems from, as Myka suspected, the fact that HG's attempt to destroy the world ran Myka away from the Warehouse for a while, or something else. Hmmm.

Don't Hate the Player

So much better than last week. Is there really any question of whether Jane and Maura are together? I remain befuddled by how this much OBVIOUS SUBTEXT could be unintentional. Janet Tamaro is lying through her teeth with every interview she does, isn't she? I mean, really. Maura cutting off the toes of her surely-expensive shoes to make them fit Jane? WHO EVEN DOES THIS? (I don't even care that the stated reason was so that Jane would look sexy for her date/interrogation with the ball player. Actually, Maura seemed like she was doing it more because she has Fashion Ideals, Goddammit, and no dress of hers was going to be worn without the appropriate footwear. Though for the record, I thought the boots with the dress were kind of cool.)

Also, Maura wearing Jane's clothes and hinting complaining that she got hit on by two women? Like that wasn't intentional. Also, banter. So much snarky, we-are-so-married banter.

Um, yeah, so there was a plot. I called the player Jane "dated" from the moment he handed her his phone number, because this is SO VERY STRAIGHT Rizzoli & Isles and none of their potential boyfriends last past one episode, so of course he had to be the bad guy. The woman playing the wife and half-owner of the team was incredibly familiar, but I can't quite place her and IMDB won't cough up a name for the actress, so I'll just have to wonder.

The Rizzoli family drama was somewhat interesting, but far more interesting was the DOGGEH. That dog is the cutest thing EVER, I swear.

Oh no, did the dog playing Jo Friday pee on Sasha?

Yes, yes he did, as immortalized in the blooper reel. And on closer inspection, this appears to be a different dog. Which doesn't really surprise me - I think peeing on a co-star is one of those things that automatically gets you fired.

Aw, yay! HG/Myka was what drew me to the show as well. I tried watching in S1, got bored, tuned back in randomly for some S2 episodes, and was completely captivated by HG as a character and HG/Myka as a ship.

Yeah, I started from the beginning of S1 and I got so bored, but I knew about HG, so I stuck it out waiting for the femslash to redeem it, and lo, it did.

??! Links? I just tried searching for some, but something about her Canadian Valley Girl accent and intonation (there are traces of it when she plays Myka, but it's toned way down) drives me straight up the wall and I couldn't face going through all the stuff on YouTube from Comic Con.

A fan asked about the HG/Myka relationship, and Jo Kelly said that she and Jaime Murray talked about it, and how to make the dynamic interesting, and they decided to have the characters "fall in love a little bit". You can see the video on tumblr here. Then later, she's doing an interview, and they ask her about the Pete/Myka relationship and then ask "you don't see a little love in the air for Myka?" and she responds "Only with HG." The background noise is really loud, but that video is here.

ME TOO! I'd like it better if the shows were good in and of themselves (W13 is definitely better than R&I, and I'd probably still watch it without the femslash, but it's still a "put my brain in neutral" kind of show), but femslash possibilities = excellent no matter what.

Yeah, I've still enjoyed most W13 episodes that don't have HG in them, but the R&I episodes without Jane/Maura slash are pretty much unwatchable. But it's so nice to have two shows at once with viable femslash. I mean, hell, femslash fandom (at least in my circles) spent years with Alex/Olivia and Emily/JJ being the two main ships (well, and Cara/Kahlan, but I prefer my shows a lot less rape-y), and there was almost nothing to go on, and now we have Rizzoli & Isles and Warehouse 13 and it's all femslash, all the time.

Man, I need W13 icons.
