Oh. So, so pretty.
Whitney, Chandra, Ellen and I dressed up for the afternoon showing in Mt. Vernon. Cloaks and dresses and elvish things, oh yes. We got accosted by fourteen-year-old girls after the movie asking where we got our costumes.
The movie? Fantastic. Still processing it. So pretty...I'm in love with Minas Tirith. There were definitely several spots where I got chills--all the riders of Rohan lined up, the whole silent-except-for-Pippin-singing pre-fight scene, first shots of Minas Tirith, reforging Aragorn's sword...there are others. Of course, it could also have been the sub-Artic temperature of the theatre. But I think it was the movie.
Am ever so slightly miffed that my favorite part of the trilogy, towards the end when Legolas hears the call of the seagull and realizes he's now being drawn to the sea/the Gray Havens (I love that scene...dunno why, but I do), isn't in there. Maybe the extended edition? The fifty false endings got a little old after a while, although I thought each was even better than the last, especially when the ship sails and the very last scene with Sam and his family.
Speaking of Legolas...whoa, Prince of Mirkwood? Try Prince of the Obvious. "A diversion"? Oh, my. The surfing down the trunk of the oliphant was a little...err...hmmm...but "that still counts as one" from Gimli was perfect. ;)
I am so seeing this again. Preferably at a theatre with less-surly employees. There were two people who kept on and on about moving people over to have seats together at the ends of rows, even to the point of a cursing match with a woman who was saving seats for someone in the bathroom and someone getting concessions because she wouldn't give them up. Wow. It was definitely looking like a fistfight was about to start.
And the fangirls...AUGH! We sat right in front of a section of them. I think it was the same ones who asked us about our costumes. They clapped every ten minutes in the second half of the movie, even for really stupid stuff that didn't really necessitate applause. There was a lot of "you can't do that!" and "oh no!", too. Did they not know what was going to happen? Even if you haven't read the books, I think you can figure out the basic plot, eh? And so many "Aragorn is so sexy!" and "ORLANDO!"s. AAAAAAAAUUUUUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!! During the credits, they got all ticked because "Orlando" wasn't listed first or whatever. Ugh. God save us all from obnoxious 14-year-olds.
But even they can't ruin the movie. :)
And now I need to finish paaaaacking...

You know, from my point of view, I almost can't tell the difference between anyone under 20. *eg*

*rolls eyes* Riiiight. Okay, save us from obnoxious people in general. I may be nearer their age than you are (although I do turn twenty in two months), but at least I was silent throughout the movie! *glares again at fangirls*

Date: 2003-12-17 09:32 pm (UTC)Oh yeah... When he sent them to their death and the singing. I was tearing up - didn't cry in this one. Make the next few times I see it I will. But yeah. That was just heartbreaking.
Minas Tirith - the White Tower. Chills. Oh yes. Such a great movie.

Date: 2003-12-19 09:03 am (UTC)Woo-hoo! We definitely need to do that. And see the Hermitage or something like it all decorated up for Christmas.
Hopefully I'm getting Two Towers extended edition for Christmas!
I think I may have to ask for this as well. :)
