Teaser
- Serious, serious Star Trek vibes here. Really. I mean it. Although the outside of the Prometheus looks like it was lifted from the B5/Crusade universe.
- Who's the Colonel person? He's vaguely reminding me of that other captain from Voyager's "Equinox," but I don't think that's it.
- Kid in a candy store. Heh. "I'll try to retain my composure." More heh.
- I cannot STAND this FocusFactor guy. He's on the verge of becoming the new Sci-Fi Channel Bitch.
First Act
- More Star Trek. Really, incredibly Star Trek--the bridge scene when the alien ship is firing? So could've been pulled straight from any of the series.
- Sam, honey...dude. You lean over the crystals that make the ship work while someone's firing at you, you get what you deserve. Did we learn nothing from "Fail Safe"?
- Was it just me, or did AT start sounding more Canadian than usual (which would be none) in Sam's voiceover monologue? I noticed it esspecially on "assume," which turned into "assyoom."
- Ooooh, pretty neubla.
- Teal'c's "If you sleep, you will DIE!" thing sounds like the tag line from some kind of cheap horror movie. Just sayin'.
Second Act
- I'm harmonizing along with the kid's "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." I am such a choir geek.
- Dude! It's a bathroom on a starship! *snicker* Okay, not as much Star Trek.
- Pretty music with the kid.
- Daniel (or Sam's-subconcious-posing-as-Daniel)? Have you recently watched The Matrix? Several times, perhaps?
Third Act
- Living cloud? Okay, I so remember this plotline from TNG. Really. I think Voyager did something with it, too.
- I find this incarnation of Daniel quite amusing.
Fourth Act
- "Luke, I am your father." (See,
- Please don't take me for some kind of raging feminist, but I was a little...bemused by Jacob and Sam's conversation. Does Sam need someone to love just to have a relationship, no matter how wonderful it is? Or should said wonderful relationship come about because she meets someone she can fall into said relationship with? Jacob's wording made it sound like "you need this in your life," where as I would argue that she doesn't; it would be nice if it happened, but I can't see Sam as the type to go searching very hard for it.
On second thought, though, you could also read it as "you deserve this kind of happiness," or "I treasured this kind of happiness when I had it; I love you and thus want you to experience it as well," which I would agree with. I think it was meant to go over this way; however, my very first impression of it leans more towards my first interpretation. YMMV.
Of course, this is all Sam's own thoughts. This is what she thinks her dad wants for her, and what she wants for herself, so I suppose how it's presented is less than important. I suppose that also negates my comment above that Sam wouldn't go searching for this kind of relationship if indeed she wants it badly enough to talk to herself about it, doesn't it? ;) (This has been your stream-of-consciousness analysis for today. I'm quitting while I'm, if not ahead, then at least not as far behind as I could be.)
- Oh, my. So many things in that convo with Jack. Wow. Hooray for writers addressing the Sam/Jack issue instead of leaving the UST to fester!
- Not getting the connection with "Grace" being the kid's name. Did Sam know someone named Grace?
- So who the hell are the aliens, anyway? Anybody we know?
Tag
- Hee! She called him Jack!
Overall
The whole plot with the Prometheus, the living cloud, and the random alien ship was pretty dull, and if that had been the whole story, I would be very disappointed. (If it had been the whole story, it would've been giving "Revisions" a run for "worst S7 episode so far"!) However, it wasn't, and the Sam-introspection bits were great. She has a very entertaining subconscious--or at least the Daniel bits were. Heh. Plus lots to chew over in the conversations with Jacob and Jack. Nice.
Look, it's snip and combine in your comments...
Date: 2004-01-16 08:57 pm (UTC)He was in a previous ep, um, "Memento."
Was it just me, or did AT start sounding more Canadian than usual (which would be none) in Sam's voiceover monologue?
She always sounds slightly Canadian to me. "House," "colour," etc. And yes, she did sound more Canadian when she did her Scully bits.
Heh, Scully bits. ;)
Pretty music with the kid.
That kid creeped me the hell out. I was having "Hush" flashbacks.
I find this incarnation of Daniel quite amusing.
So do I. He's hilarious! Also, didn't Regular!Daniel seem overcaffeinated?
"I treasured this kind of happiness when I had it; I love you and thus want you to experience it as well,"
That's pretty much how I saw it. Plus I was squeeing and thinking "well, maybe Jack does call him Dad for a reason..."
Hooray for writers addressing the Sam/Jack issue instead of leaving the UST to fester!
Yay! Festering UST smells really, really bad, you know.
Not getting the connection with "Grace" being the kid's name.
AU daughter. ;) The "boring!" part did remind me of Jack. Oh, and the surface tension thing reminded me of your Christmas fic.
So who the hell are the aliens, anyway?
Vir's third cousin.
Hee! She called him Jack!
< SQUEE! >
Want some cake? I'm so having cake. I'm glad we got a lot from Sam. Her mind's very fun. I also enjoyed Teal'c telling Jack about that other locker room scene in "Paradise Lost." Woo!
Anyway, excuse my blathering. I'm still squeeing and I've missed any form of snipping and combining. I think snip and combine need anthropomorphic slash fic. Who's with me?

Yeah, I remember that, but I feel like I've seen the actor before. *looks up on IMDB* Hmmm...nothing immediately recognizable, but he's guested on basically ever SF show ever made, so I suppose that's why he looks familiar. ;)
She always sounds slightly Canadian to me. "House," "colour," etc.
Hmmm. I'll have to listen for that. I remember thinking once in a while, "okay, that sounded Canadian," but not as a regular thing.
And yes, she did sound more Canadian when she did her Scully bits.
Maybe she's like me, and takes on the accent of anyone she's speaking with. No other speaker = reversion to own accent.
Heh, Scully bits. ;)
*snicker*
That kid creeped me the hell out. I was having "Hush" flashbacks.
The kid was a little creepy.
So do I. He's hilarious!
He was great as Sam's self-doubt. Hee.
Also, didn't Regular!Daniel seem overcaffeinated?
Now that you mention it, it did seem a bit jumpy.
That's pretty much how I saw it. Plus I was squeeing and thinking "well, maybe Jack does call him Dad for a reason..."
Hehehe. Actually, I kind of read it as Jacob encouraging her to go outside the SGC for a guy and forget about Jack. *spoilerycough* But heh, yeah--Jack calling Jacob Dad is great.
Yay! Festering UST smells really, really bad, you know.
Like moldy cheese.
AU daughter. ;)
Hee! That's what my roomie and I thought when we first heard spoilers for this one. :)
The "boring!" part did remind me of Jack.
She definitely had some Jack-like qualities. The "boring!", the bubbles...
Oh, and the surface tension thing reminded me of your Christmas fic.
Errr...okay. :) You mean where she's describing the warp bubble to a bored kid (i.e. Jack)?
So who the hell are the aliens, anyway?
Vir's third cousin.
*snerk*
Want some cake? I'm so having cake.
Mmmmm, cake.
I'm glad we got a lot from Sam. Her mind's very fun. I also enjoyed Teal'c telling Jack about that other locker room scene in "Paradise Lost." Woo!
Yep. That was good, too.
I think snip and combine need anthropomorphic slash fic. Who's with me?
*eyes pop open* Don't give Muse ideas!!! (But yes, I think they do. ;))
Re: Look, it's snip and combine in your comments...
Date: 2004-01-17 03:46 pm (UTC)< shrugs > I think my exchange thing did weird things to the way I hear. Plus my sister makes fun of me every time I say "eh." ;)
It may also be that I'm closer to the border and used to hear Canadian accents on tv a lot. I can't help but laugh every time Lisa Ryder speaks on FK. Thickest Canadian accent ever.
Maybe she's like me, and takes on the accent of anyone she's speaking with.
That may also be true. I'd love to find out why some people keep their accents and others pick up accents so easily.
He was great as Sam's self-doubt.
Doubting Harvey, hee.
Now that you mention it, it did seem a bit jumpy.
Too much caffeine or horny? You decide. < eg >
Actually, I kind of read it as Jacob encouraging her to go outside the SGC for a guy and forget about Jack. *spoilerycough*
Hehe. Yep, I heard that Sam's getting a boyfriend. (Accidental spoilage, grr.) I don't think he'll last long though. I just hope he survives. ;)
You mean where she's describing the warp bubble to a bored kid (i.e. Jack)?
Yeah, it reminded me of the whole Heisenberg thing that Sam does in your fic.
Mmmmm, cake.
Cake is very good. Always choose cake. ;)
*eyes pop open* Don't give Muse ideas!!! (But yes, I think they do. ;))
Mwahahahahaha! I've spent too much time at
Oh, by the way, something seems different about Jack. I'm not sure what it is, but he seems different. Any ideas?
Re: Look, it's snip and combine in your comments...
Date: 2004-01-17 09:01 pm (UTC)Hmmm. Enitrely possible.
It may also be that I'm closer to the border and used to hear Canadian accents on tv a lot. I can't help but laugh every time Lisa Ryder speaks on FK. Thickest Canadian accent ever.
I totally don't remember LR's accent. Then again, I mainly watched the show when I was twelve or fourteen, so I had no idea what a Canadian accent sounded like then. I probably thought she was midwestern or something.
That may also be true. I'd love to find out why some people keep their accents and others pick up accents so easily.
I'd like to know that as well. Maybe Google has something?
Dude, with the way I pick up accents, I could make millions as a vice actress... ;)
Doubting Harvey, hee.
I really, really, really wanna see Jack have Harvey in his brain. Really, really, really.
Too much caffeine or horny? You decide. < eg >
Maybe he was thinking about his last encounter with Thor.
I just hope he survives. ;)
There's no way he's gonna remain Sam's boyfriend. They have too much invested in Sam/Jack, and they actually seem the type to want to make it pay off. Although it would be cool if he survived--remember how all of Maggie's boyfriends on Northern Exposure died? And then she hooked up with Joel, and it all had to end 'cause Rob Morrow was leaving? I really hope that doesn't happen to S/J. Eeek. (Of course, Sam and Jack aren't quite that neurotic. Or at least not that type of neurotic. So that particular kind of wackiness wouldn't happen.)
Yeah, it reminded me of the whole Heisenberg thing that Sam does in your fic.
Hee. Sam is such a geek. *G*
Cake is very good. Always choose cake. ;)
But of course. Cake or Jell-O. ("Cake or death?" Sorry, Eddie Izzard moment there.)
Mwahahahahaha! I've spent too much time at anthropomor_fic.
You and me both.
Oh, by the way, something seems different about Jack. I'm not sure what it is, but he seems different. Any ideas?
I haven't noticed much beyond reduced screentime. Are there specific instances where he's acted differently than you'd expect?
