I really should just stop going to fanfiction.net, because it always makes my blood pressure rise. But can I just say that I am REALLY, REALLY SICK of portmanteaus? People. Enough. If I see one more "Sheyla, "McShep," or "McWeir," I'm gonna scream. There was a "Teyden" in one summary. TEYDEN, FOR GOD'S SAKE. If you can't see the bad in this, then I don't know what to tell you. ("Shweir" has even started to annoy me, though I can understand the Wayne's World humor of it. But. Still.)

And is there some reason why people refuse to use "/" between names anymore when they're not combining them in hideous combinations? The slash key isn't hard to find, people! (Not that slash key. Although having a key for it would be amusing.)

(Also: Spam spam spammity spam! You can always tell when I'm on some kind of vacation!)

Ugh. That drives me crazy, too, even when people write it as a joke. Because pretty soon, it stops being a joke.

I know on ff.net, the slash key in the summaries doesn't work for me. I put up my Willow/Oz trilogy there, and it took me weeks to notice that it was in there as WillowOz because for some reason it just refused to read the /.

I think Bobby McShep would be a great name for a character. He could eat at McWeir's restaurant. With his friend Sheyla Teyden.

And then a meteor drops on the restaurant and kills them.

I'm still wondering why people have drifted to the portmanteau thing for pairings. For some it's amusing -- Shweir still makes me smile a bit because I'm twelve -- but others it just sounds stupid. I guess I can kind of understand it as a switch from just letters for fandoms where there are just waaaay too many characters whose names start with the same letter like Smallville, but it's not necessary for a lot of things.

It would be interesting to catalogue which fandoms use which listings, though. I've only seen portmanteaus for Smallville, Buffy and Atlantis. I doubt you'd see listings for "Sack" or "Dank" in SG-1. ;)

(I do think ff.net may take out / in summaries, though. I know many will strip \. I wonder if Thing1//Thing2 wuld show up as Thing1/Thing2.)

Not that slash key. Although having a key for it would be amusing.

"I keep hitting the slash key but those silly boys still aren't shagging!" I do have to wonder about the blackslash key now...

*dances* I made up Shweir FOR the Wayne's World humor. *hee* It was on the Shep/Liz list at Yahoo and in my LJ. Yay for making up cool stuff.

I'm currently on the McShweir thang. But I usually use the / with names.

Yup, that was so me! LOL, back when the sheppard_n_weir list started, they were talking about a "name" for the ship, so I posted ;)

Nevermind THIS icon which Torri made me do. She did, I TELL YOU SHE DID!

LOL

I do so love that list. Most of the time.

*cough*

If you are looking at ff.net, they no longer allow the "/" in summaries.
