Since we always seem to be arguing about what to call a carbonated beverage at school, here's a study on what people across the nation call them.

Personally, I go for "coke" (even if it's Sprite, it's coke, dangit!). Most of the nation goes for "soda," followed by "pop." Crazy Midwesterners. I gotta say, whenever someone says something along the lines of "I'm putting pop in the fridge," I think "You're putting your grandfather in the refrigerator? What?"

Anyway. There you have it--the New Englanders and Middle Atlantic types win. Sigh. There's so many of y'all...

And then, if you happen to be Australian, you barely say any of them. We say 'coke' if the drink is actually coke, but apart from that, it is 'soft drink'. Preferably the name of the drink.

Soda? Pop? Uhhh, no. *g*

I often call it "soda." Sometimes the Midwesterner in me calls it "pop." But I'm trying to remember to call it "carbonated beverage in a recyclable container of fun." The looks you can get in restaurants is great.

I generally call it coke.

Of course, pretty much the entire population of Britain calls it "fizzy pop." =)

*snerk*

See, we never ever call it soda - I didn't even know what soda was until I asked Vaidah over the phone one time. She burst out laughing when I told her we called it "fizzy pop."
