Tonight's Castle

I liked this one a lot. More Montgomery is always a good thing. And whoever wrote it has a reasonably good handle on teenagers; I downright chortled at Alexis's "You violated my civil rights!" and Castle's "Technically I can't do that unless I'm the government." But though I can totally see Alexis thinking, "I'll just pay for the shoplifted goods," rather than, "maybe I shouldn't be friends with these people," I question whether even Castle The Awesome Dad wouldn't insist she quit hanging out with said criminal friends. (Yeah, I know they were going for the connection with the case. Still not buying it.)

The last scene was adorable. Geek!love! Beckett, will you please just dump Josh already?

In other news, the relentless advertising ABC has been doing during Castle, as well as the awesome personification of snark that is Dana Delaney, has convinced me to watch Body of Proof tomorrow. DD's character seems like someone I'll like, even if it is Yet Another Crime Show, Dear God, Are There Any Other Concepts Out There In TV Land?

I'm on the west coast so I don't see Castle for another hour, but I peeked in on this. Yes, more Montgomery is always a good thing. Love his character. As far as Alexis goes, Castle trusts her to be a good kid in the end. She is rebelling like any teenager will. It's just natural.

I'm going to watch Body of Proof. I'm one of the few people who've avoided all the CSIs and L&O. We'll that's not entirely true...I have watched some L&O SVU, but not many. Besides, I love DD as an actor. Her appearances on Castle as Agent Shaw were wonderful IMO. I know her and RDA were an item at one time, but that was several years ago.

Dunno...the episode itself didn't convince me that it was in any way a kind of natural rebellion that should be left to run its course. It looked more like Alexis was being a doormat and Castle wasn't doing anything to help her stand up for herself. I can't think of any parent I know who wouldn't try to stop their sixteen/seventeen-year-old from associating with these friends, or at the very least attempt to get some names/call parents/etc.

He was relying on her to do the right thing which she did in the end by going back and leaving the money on the counter. She caved into peer pressure which, speaking from experience, is a very powerful thing. My opinion is that she will realize on her own that if these "friends" are not really friends at all if they continue to demand stuff like this of her.

But as Castle points out, it wasn't the right thing--the kids who stole should've paid, not Alexis. She did a nice thing, but not the right thing. And if she doesn't want to fall into a pattern of getting taken advantage of, she might want to stop doing that. I just found it hard to believe that even Castle--maybe especially Castle, who probably has had people try to take advantage of his wealth--wouldn't push harder against that. Whether he trusts her not to shoplift is immaterial; it's the way she's not standing up for herself or trying to distance herself from these other kids that would bother me. This just seems like another situation of the type last season, where Alexis called to say that Paige had drunk too much and Castle took over, insisting her parents be called, an ambulance, etc.--not really a place for such hands-off parenting, in other words, but rather one for some life lessons.
