icepixie: ([Bones] Swingin')
One day, I'll talk of something else. But it's vacation until the second week of January, so it may be a while.

A few things )

Ouch.

icepixie: ([Bones] Booth Denies)
So I just learned the hard way that searching for "bones" in the LJ interests field yields practically nothing by pro-anorexia communities. Oy. ("Temperance Brennan" at least works as a good replacement term.)

(Speaking of LJ searches, what on earth has happened to ljseek.com? Every time I type in something, the max results returned are in the neighborhood of five, even for incredibly common terms. Anyone know a good LJ post search engine to use as a replacement? Or has LJ finally gotten on that boat and I just haven't been paying attention?)
icepixie: ([Cupid] Cupid grammar)
Googling for other Cupid news led me to the factoid that Hart Hanson (aka the creator of Bones) wrote for the original series (specifically, the Lisa Loeb episode and the one with the twin kids).

...Suddenly I see Booth & Brennan in a whole new light.
icepixie: ([Bones] Brennan/Booth Chopsticks)
Oh my. I just realized that the wife/mother in "The Secret in the Soil" was Tasha Yar. Whoa. I certainly didn't recognize her at the time.

And the daughter was the same girl who played Sora in Atlantis! I knew I recognized her from somewhere.
icepixie: ([Bones] Brennan/Booth Chopsticks)
I believe this was S3, episodes 4-7.

Bones S3

Dec. 6th, 2008 07:20 pm
icepixie: ([Bones] Brennan/Booth Chopsticks)
So the first disc of S3 came today, and of course I had to watch it, because...not much better to do until my prof e-mails us the questions we're supposed to prepare for the exam. Which she still hasn't done. The exam's Monday morning. I'm getting somewhat concerned, actually.

Anyway. Since I can't do much, having already studied myself to death for my later exam, here's some ramblings )
icepixie: ([Bones] Booth Denies)
Got my final disc of S2 Bones today, which only includes one episode before hitting the special features.

'Stargazer in a Puddle' )

Is Hart Hanson Canadian? There was definitely an "oot" in the special features. It would go far toward explaining the suspicious Fraseriness and RayVness of B&B....
icepixie: ([Due South] Fraser hat)
Um. You know how two weeks ago I made a post about Brennan and Booth being the updated version of Fraser and RayV?

Title: Tools of the Trade
Author: [livejournal.com profile] icepixie
Rating: G, possibly for Gross. Also for Gen.
Spoilers: None for either series.
Word Count: 500
Summary: Fraser teaches Brennan a new trick for fighting crime. RayV and Booth are long-suffering. There is vastly illogical police procedure included.
Dedication: For [livejournal.com profile] rowdycamels, who gave me the idea.

Crack!ficlet )

And with that, my paper-editing break is over...
icepixie: ([Bones] Swingin')
Disc 5 )

This show brings out my capslock and italics in so many flavors. Hmm.
icepixie: ([Bones] Booth Denies)
I am pausing in my viewing of "Spaceman in a Crater" to say that (and I don't believe this will ruin the plot for anyone), there is NO WAY ON THIS EARTH that B&B are going to be interviewing an astronaut in NASA's anti-grav plane. NO. FREAKING. WAY.

Show, you just snapped the thin thread suspending my disbelief.
icepixie: ([Bones] Brennan/Booth Chopsticks)
So I was thinking about how this show is apparently into symbolic names--"Joy" becoming "Temperance," and the joyful baby exuberance becoming the cool calmness of our favorite anthropologist; Dr. Good Man--and suddenly wondered if they're attempting to imply something with "Sully." 'Cause that would be kind of sad. He didn't sully anyone!

(Of course, I could be barking up the wrong tree. If we applied this same kind of interpretation to Seeley Booth's name, all we'd get is mattresses and diners, or possibly telephones, only one of which might in any way reflect on his character. And the others don't really lend themselves to that kind of analysis either, unless one were to make a math connection with Zack Addy.)

(Oh, and this reminds me of another question: how did Brennan's parents get around the whole the-extended-family-would-NOT-be-named-Brennan thing? Insist that both parents were only children and all the grandparents were dead? Were other Keenan folks criminals as well? Argh, show, your logic holes could have trucks driven through them.)

Also, I keep trying to make some kind of connection between Brennan and Book Two of The Faerie Queene, which is the book about Guyon, Knight of Temperance. Buuut I have a feeling Hart Hanson & Co. would not have a clue what I'm talking about, so never mind. (Although if someone wanted to do a reinterpretation of the Bower of Blisse, that would be both awesome and hilarious. There's a lot of violent crime in that book they could draw from for plots, actually...)

...Okay, I have obviously been working on my paper for way. too. long. (Three pages, though!) I'm going to bed.
icepixie: ([Bones] Swingin')
Bones stuff. Cut for Ellen's unspoiled eyes )
icepixie: ([Bones] Swingin')
"Aliens in a Spaceship" is officially my favorite episode of this show. *LUFFS*
icepixie: ([Bones] Swingin')
Bones S2 second disc musings )
icepixie: ([Due South] Fraser hat)
So I was thinking today about Mulder and Scully versus Brennan and Booth (spurred on by this fanfic, which has B&B discussing such things, and Brennan whining about how Scully gets to carry a gun, and so should she), and I came to a realization. Rather than M&S, or Maddie and David, which would have been my other guess, Brennan and Booth are in fact Fraser and Ray Vecchio with a chick.

No, really! Can't you see it? Brennan and Fraser are like pop culture-n00b soul twins with justice complexes. (I...kind of want crossover shipfic now. Maybe they met while she was at Northwestern?) She's less McGuyverish, though, except for her speciality, where she could leave him in the dust. (Probably. Then again, knowing Fraser, he probably read forensic anthropology textbooks as bedtime reading when he was seven, so who knows.) Booth and Ray V are both the long-suffering down-to-earth cop types who happen to dress in incredibly expensive suits and have family obligations and darkness in their pasts.

I...think this might make Cam Thatcher, aka the power-monger with a heart. Er, does that mean I'll eventually ship her and Brennan? That might be weird.

...Why yes, I am avoiding work on a paper! How did you guess?

Oh dear god I hate this paper please kill me now kthx

BTW, said paper would be why I'm behind on comments. I'll try to catch up over Christmas break next week.
icepixie: ([Doctor Who] Romana and K-9 at the beach)
My first disc of Bones S2 came today. Reactions: I guess I'll start cutting on the off chance someone reading this might want to get into the show and not be spoiled )

Finally getting around to answering the icon meme from [livejournal.com profile] spleeny!

You have to love Rebecca Fogg's versatile hoop skirt frame that becomes a ladder. You just have to. (Best Victorian spy ever!)

I took the original picture of these canal boats on the Oxford Canal in May 2005, then jazzed it up in Photoshop. I think a week or two on a canal boat, wandering the waterways of England, would be an awesome way to spend some vacation and a large sum of money. (Apparently there are people who live on them full time. I don't think I could do that, but vacation...yes.)

This awesome screencap is from a Northern Exposure episode where Chris really, seriously lights up the darkness. For the whole scene, I direct you to YouTube.

This is one of Joel Anderson's Spirit of Nashville vintage-style prints. I wanted an icon for Nashville-specific posts and comments, and I adore that particular almost art deco style.

From the last episode of Due South. They put a dog in a parachute, y'all. It was funny.

'
Wanda taking a picture on Corner Gas. In theory, it's to be used for photo posts and such, but since I've been such a slacker at taking pictures lately, I've been using it mainly for CG-related stuff.
icepixie: ([Photos] Eiffel tower)
Okay, so they used an Over the Rhine song in 1.20 and are now officially out of my Your Music Sucks books. Go, show!

Also, Hodgins being all crushy-crush on Angela is ADORABLE. *squishes*
