In case you almost forgot, as I did, Fringe comes back tonight! Hooray!
icepixie: ([Fringe] Vulcan)
I don't usually watch the sneak peeks for Fringe, but because I've been so frustrated with the pacing of this season, I gave in and watched this one.

!!!!! )

[livejournal.com profile] rowdycamels, this is sorta spoily, but it's totally worth breaking your spoiler policy and watching anyway!

Or, as I was originally going to call it, "Crouching Dunham, Hidden Badass." Because Olivia might look like a plain and unassuming government worker in her relentless neutrals, but if you're a bad guy, she will kick your ass.

Title: The Places You'll Go
Song/Artist: "North American Field Song," The Innocence Mission
Length: 3:24
Spoilers: Through the end of season three.
Summary: Working for Fringe Division thrusts Olivia into situations she never would've imagined. But she's not going to let any mad scientists, fedora-wearing time travelers, shapeshifters, or doppelgangers get her down.

Onion pita + garlic hummus + tabouleh + garlic and herb feta = OMG YES. How did I not even know tabouleh existed until just a few months ago? This stuff is amazing! Though I used way too much lemon juice in this batch (my first homemade batch). It's very citrusy. I am thoroughly safe from scurvy.

The Fringe rewatch continues apace. I'm two-thirds of the way through S3 now.

Some thoughts. As usual, spoilers for everything that's aired. )

Completely unrelated to any of the above, today my brain decided that Astrid/Brandon would be a most excellent crack!ship. THINK OF THE NERDINESS.

Sadness.

Bad news about Fringe's chances for renewal.

Yeah, I get the impression pigs will ice skate in hell before the show gets a fifth season. I can't say as I'm surprised; disappointed, yes, but not surprised. Though maybe there will be a magical infusion of viewers next week? (Perhaps Walter could invent a machine that allows people with the Redverse equivalent of Nielsen boxes to be counted here! *g*) I suppose a cable or non-US network could pick it up for a short fifth season or something like that, but I wouldn't bet on it.

What worries me is that statement that the producers won't officially know it's been canceled until after they write the finale. Guys, I love you and your crazy cliffhangers, but the writing is on the wall, and I want a real ending. My heart cannot take something like the any of the previous three season finales without the promise of a resolution. Comic books, sad to say, don't count as proper endings for me. I want my resolution on film.

And I want it to include a little tribe of Bishops. IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK???
icepixie: "All the Queen's Horses." Lyrics misquoted from The Innocence Mission. ([DS] Fraser/Thatcher train joy)
Fandom stockings have been revealed, and I got amazing things! I received a podfic of a lovely Northern Exposure story, some nifty photos from Rouleau, Saskatchewan (aka Dog River), a sweet Michael/Fi-centric Burn Notice fic, and IVANOVA/GARIBALDI FIC OMG OMG!

This year, I didn't write as much as I hoped to, but I did write three things. All are rated G and under 1,000 words.

due South
Glad Spirits - Meg meets her father-in-law for the first time. I guess it could be set in the same AU as "Down the Rabbit Hole," although it doesn't have to be. Fraser/Thatcher.

DS9
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart) - "The thing is, she thinks when Julian hits on her yet again at their weekly breakfast together, part of her would like to say yes." My first Bashir/Jadzia Dax fic in...twelve years? Thirteen? It's been over a decade, anyway. Baby's first OTP! The e.e. cummings title may be a fandom cliche by now, but I swear it's relevant.

Fringe
A Very Good Year - Happy birthday to Astrid. Teamy, fluffy S2-era gen.

Second, Fringe rewatch update: soooo, all of S2 in under a week! Yeah, it kind of becomes impossible to stop after "Jacksonville" even when I already know what happens.

Some notes, spoilers through 4.07 )

Happy new year! Wow, 2012. I feel so futuristic.

So, I just rewatched all of Fringe S1 in roughly a week. I kept coming up against episodes and five minutes into them going, "Oh, it's this one" (where "this one" means "brain liquifaction via computer virus" or something similarly disgusting), but I'm hunting clips for four different potential vids, so I had to watch them all. Plus there was sometimes a little nugget that relates to the mytharc. Spoiler ) But it all starts to come together in the latter half of the season, particularly with "Ability" and then "Bad Dreams" through the finale, and especially with the benefit of hindsight, you can see how everything is tying in to the larger plot and how the characters are putting the pieces together, and it's like those wonderful moments in music when a bunch of dissonant lines resolve into a chord.

Coupla specific thoughts:

Spoilers through S4 )

In other news, lately I have found myself reeeeeally craving fic for old movies, to the point where I'm contemplating setting up a promptfest or perhaps even an exchange. Exchanges seem to actually produce fic, but promptfests are much less pressure, and I am all about my fannish life being as low-pressure as possible. Perhaps it could be something like, "Submit 3 prompts, then write one before you're allowed to submit 3 more," along with some very generous and relaxed deadlines for people who want them? I dunno. Thoughts, anyone?
